Water is the one thing you can't build an extension onto.
Of everything that has to keep up with new homes, water is the one you can't build an extension onto.
Parts of the region are already short. In July 2026, Cambridge Water brought in its first hosepipe ban in over 30 years, to protect supplies and local chalk streams. Around Cambridge, Environment Agency objections over water have held up more than 9,000 homes.
The new reservoirs for Anglian and Cambridge Water customers aren't expected until the mid to late 2030s. The sources are here.
A 150 home estate doesn't pay for any of that. A planned place at least gets one water plan, with its demand, its reuse and its storage worked out together. Separate estates each get looked at on their own, like everything else.
We can stop this
We want building concentrated in fewer, larger places with schools, health, water and transport built in — not another estate on the edge of every village.
