How sprawl adds to this
The line is consented as energy policy. The housing is consented as local plans. The same countryside takes both, a project at a time, with no single picture of the carve-up.
What a larger settlement cannot undo
Concentration does not take the pylons down. City-scale demand could itself need grid capacity. Scattering homes does not shrink the line either. One place can at least put its own power demand in one plan, instead of adding substations to twenty village edges.
